What about Qatar?
This relatively small country with large influence got a lot of mainstream coverage during the World Cup in 2022. The country has rapidly emerged as a major economic and cultural hub in the region, with a rich history and a diverse population.
History and Culture Qatar has a long and rich history dating back to prehistoric times, with evidence of human habitation dating back over 50,000 years. The region has been inhabited by various tribes and empires over the centuries, including the Persians, the Ottomans, and the British.
Today, Qatar is a melting pot of different cultures and traditions, with a diverse population and its capital Doha. The country’s official language is Arabic, but English is widely spoken and understood.
One of the most prominent cultural institutions in Qatar is the Museum of Islamic Art, which houses one of the most comprehensive collections of Islamic art and artefacts in the world. The museum is a stunning piece of architecture designed by renowned architect I.M. Pei, and it offers visitors a unique glimpse into the rich artistic and cultural heritage of the Islamic world.
Economy and Development Qatar has one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, thanks in large part to its vast reserves of natural gas and oil. The country is a major producer and exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and has used its wealth to invest heavily in infrastructure, education, and technology.
Qatar also heavily invests outside of the country into a variety of ventures from shopping malls such as Harrods, to hotel groups like Maybourne Hotels as well as football clubs namely PSG.
The country’s ambitious development plans have led to the creation of several iconic landmarks, including the Qatar National Library, the National Museum of Qatar, and the Education City complex, which houses several international universities and research institutions.
Sports and Tourism Qatar has emerged as a major player in the world of sports, hosting several major international events in recent years. The country has successfully hosted the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the first time the tournament was held in the Middle East. Qatar has also hosted the Asian Games, the IAAF World Athletics Championships, and the FINA World Swimming Championships.
Tourism is also a growing industry in Qatar, with the country’s stunning coastline, desert landscapes, and modern architecture drawing visitors from around the world. The city of Doha, Qatar’s capital, is home to several world-class hotels, restaurants, and shopping centres, and the country’s rich cultural heritage is on full display in its many museums and galleries.
But you can also venture outside of Doha, where you will find old forts, nature and even a friend ostrich.
Another important pillar for Qatar is education, mainly driven by the Qatar Foundation. Its is a non-profit organisation established in 1995 by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and his wife, Sheikha Moza bint Nasser. The organisation is based in Doha, Qatar, and aims to promote and support education, science and research, and community development.
Sheikha Moza is very passionate about equal education opportunities and therefore has multiple initiatives and projects which include the establishment of Education City, a complex of educational institutions and research centres in Doha; the Qatar Science and Technology Park, which supports technology-based entrepreneurship; the Qatar National Research Fund, which provides grants for research projects in Qatar; and the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE), an annual conference that brings together leaders in education and innovation.
All in all Doha has a lot to offer and is also very safe. It is a fascinating country with a rich history, a diverse population, and a dynamic economy. Its ambitious development plans, focus on sustainability and innovation, and growing prominence on the global stage make it an exciting place to visit and do business. Whether you’re interested in history and culture, sports and tourism, or cutting-edge technology and innovation, Qatar has something to offer everyone.
