Is Saudi a good Tourist Destination?
If you have found this article then you may be asking yourself “is Saudi a good tourist destination?” I will be really honest with you, there is some debate on whether Saudi Arabia is actually a good tourist destination or not.
Some people say that it is not because they claim there are no tourist attractions in the country, while others argue that the country has a lot to offer tourists, including its rich culture and history.
In this article, I want to take you through the events, places, and reasons that make me think Saudi is a good tourist destination.
Tourism is Growing
Despite the fact that Saudi Arabia still has many things to develop for tourism, there are many places in the country that are worth visiting and there are various events and places that are great for tourists.
Personally, I believe that Saudi Arabia has a lot to offer tourists, it might not be the most obvious tourist destination, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give it a visit.
Get a Guide
There are some places in Saudi Arabia that are definitely worth visiting, such as Riyadh, Jeddah and Al Ula to name just a few. Each will offer you something amazing to see or do In Saudi.
If you want to explore Saudi Arabia more then I would recommend hiring a guide who can show you around the country and give you more information on the attractions.
The benefit of hiring a guide is that you can get insights and tips that you wouldn’t otherwise know about, which will make your trip much more enjoyable.
Also, the cost of a guide isn’t too expensive and is usually worth it when you compare it to the cost of exploring on your own and not getting the most out of your trip.
I also recommend that you do some research on culture or take a course about what you should and shouldn’t do (we can help with this).
Visit Al Ula
Al Ula is also a great place to visit if you want to experience Saudi Arabia’s rich culture and history. The area is home to many ancient archaeological sites, including Madain Saleh, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Al Ula is also surrounded by beautiful mountains and valleys, so it’s definitely worth visiting if you want to experience some of Saudi Arabia’s natural beauty especially you like places like Petra in Jordan.
Festivals and Events
There are also a number of events and festivals in Saudi Arabia that are worth checking out if you’re planning on visiting the country.
The Janadriyah Festival, which celebrates Saudi culture, is a great event to attend for tourists. It lasts for two weeks and attracts over 1 million visitors and is free to visit.
During the festival, you can see camel and horse racing, there Is sword dancing, poetry, crafts, carpet weaving, pottery, great food, to name but a few things.
Many new music events have recently started such as MDL Beast Soundstorm in the desert which brings together the best DJs from all over the world.
Then there is the Riyadh International Book Fair is also a must-visit for book lovers. It’s the biggest book fair in the Arab world and is held every year in February.
Formula 1
In 2021 Formula 1 made its way to Jeddah for the first time ever. The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix was a big success and will return in March 2022 and is a great addition to the calendar of events in Saudi.
You will also find that there are many events surrounding the F1 such as concerts and entertainment for children.
Do your Research
Before travelling to any country it is always important to do your research, this is especially true for Saudi Arabia as it is a very different place to most Western countries.
Make sure you read up on the culture and customs of Saudi Arabia, so you know what to expect and how to behave while you’re there – or you can take a course to speed charge your knowledge (we can help with this).
